At the University Museum of Contemporary Art (UMCA) at UMass, Amherst
This month’s ArtSalon will be at the UMCA in Amherst. The evening begins at 6:30pm with mingling and light refreshments, and presentations start at 7pm. A brief Q&A period with the artists follows the presentations. The UMCA, the teaching museum of UMass Amherst, is a multidisciplinary, international laboratory for the exploration and advancement of contemporary art. Currently on view in the galleries are Chuck Close Photographs, and Anne Beresford: Ten Thousand Wonderful Things. We encourage people to come early to see these exhibits before the ArtSalon.

Andrea Dezsö is a visual artist who works across a broad range of media including drawing, painting, illustration, artist’s books, embroidery, cut paper, animation, sculpture, site-specific installation and public art. Dezsö’s permanent public art has been installed in two New York City subway stations, at the United States Embassy in Bucharest, Romania and at CUNY BMCC Fiterman Hall in Lower Manhattan. Community Garden, Dezsö’s mosaic in the New York City subway was recognized as Best American Public Art in 2007 by Americans for the Arts. Dezsö is Associate Professor of Art at Hampshire College in Amherst, MA and maintains studios in NYC and Western Mass. www.andreadezso.com
Benjamin S Jones is an artist and educator working in sculpture, drawing, and installation. His work is driven by a sense that we define our existence through the structures we create: engineered and architectural structures as much as intellectual, financial and social structures. He has exhibited his work in numerous solo and group exhibitions throughout the US including exhibitions in New York, New Jersey, Washington, D.C., Virginia, Michigan, California, and Massachusetts. He holds degrees in sculpture form the Virginia Commonwealth University and the The Ohio State University. Jenny Vogel’s art explores the world as viewed through new media technology using web-cameras, blogs and Google searches as source material. She received her MFA from Hunter College (NYC) in 2003. She is a 2005 NYFA fellow in Computer Arts and is currently Assistant Professor of New Media Art at the University of Massachusetts. Her work has been screened and exhibited in group and solo- shows in numerous locations and galleries: Storefront Gallery, NYC; The Dallas Museum of Art, TX; McKinney Contemporary, TX; San Francisco Camerawork, CA; Arnolfini, UK; The Siberia Biennial, Russia; The Swiss Institute, NYC; EFA Gallery, NYC; Kunstwerke, Berlin; PS1 Contemporary Art Center, NYC. www.jennyvogel.net
Olivia Bernard is an artist, who makes sculpture, installations and drawings. She has exhibited at numerous galleries and museums throughout New England, including the Smith College Museum of Art, the Rose Art Museum, and the Springfield Museum of Fine Arts. She received her MFA in Sculpture from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, MA and has taught at numerous colleges in the Northeast. Wendy Ewald has for over forty years collaborated on international photography projects with children, families, women, and teachers in Labrador, Colombia, India, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Holland, Mexico, the United States among other places. Starting as documentary investigations of places and communities, Ewald’s projects probe questions of identity and cultural differences.
